Aeronautical Information Management (AIM) with AIXM and WXXM

In order to increase capacity whilst at the same time improve safety, a change towards Systems Wide Information Management (SWIM) and a net-centric approach is required. To achieve this Eurocontrol and the FAA have developed a number of 'exchange models' to establish a framework for information sharing using open standards.

Two such exchange models are:

  • Aeronautical Information Exchange Model (AIXM)
  • Weather Information Exchange Model (WXXM)

Based on the Geography Markup Language (GML), AIXM and WXXM are designed to enable the management and distribution of Aeronautical Information Services (AIS) and Weather information in digital format.
